ATLANTA - The Home Depot will open the first ``orange box'' store it has built in Mexico Thursday, the first of four new Home Depots the company will have there by year's end.
The Mexicali store, near El Centro, California, will have 77,000 square feet, about 33,000 square feet smaller than its traditional American stores. It will be the ninth Mexican Home Depot.
Home Depot entered the Mexican market in 2001 with its purchase of four Total HOME stores in Monterrey and Mexico City. In March, the Atlanta-based home-improvement retailer purchased the four-store Del Norte chain.
The three additional new stores will be in Tijuana, Culiacan and San Luis Potosi.
