TOCCOA - By this time next year over 150 jobs will be phased out as a Stephens County communications plant closes its doors.

Marconi Communications announced Tuesday that its Toccoa plant will close by August of 2003. The plant employs 165 people.

Some of the employees will be sent to other plants the company owns but many will not.

The company sites that companies are just not spending the money on telecommunications systems as they have in the past.

Marconi has had the plant in operation since 1985.
