GRIFFIN - A man being chased by police Saturday morning swerved out of his lane and hit an oncoming sheriff's deputy head-on, police said.
Spalding County Deputy Teresa Akins, 45, was flown to a hospital in Atlanta for treatment. She was in fair condition Saturday, said Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright.
The accident happened on West Macintosh Road in Griffin about 12:45 a.m.
``The perpetrator was fleeing ... he crossed the center line and hit the deputy head-on,'' Wright said. ``Speed will probably be a factor.''
Warren Lee Mace Jr., 49, was arrested and held in Fayette County Jail on traffic charges, Wright said. Additional charges were pending.
Mace suffered minor injuries, and he was treated and released from a local hospital, Wright said.
