AUBURN, ALABAMA - Auburn freshman quarterback Brandon Cox has left the football team for personal reasons, head coach Tommy Tuberville announced Saturday.
``Brandon is not with the team right now for personal and family reasons,'' said Tuberville. ``We hope he'll rejoin the team in the near future.''
Cox missed practices Thursday because of headaches following an automobile accident, and doctors had ordered an examination.
It was unknown Saturday night whether the injury was related to Cox's departure from the team.
Last year as a senior at Hewitt-Trussville High School, Cox passed for 2,887 yards and 27 touchdowns. He was named Alabama's ``Mr. Football'' this year.
Cox became the third Mr. Football to sign with the Tigers in Tuberville's four years. During his career, he completed 68.7 percent of his passes for 5,417 yards and 50 touchdowns.
``He's one of the most accurate quarterbacks I've ever seen,'' Tuberville said at Cox's signing last month. ``He's very calm, cool and collected in the pocket.''
Cox had joined sophomore Jason Campbell and seniors Daniel Cobb and Jeff Klein in the Tigers' quarterback mix.
