The candidates say they want it to be a law that women would have to be informed about alternatives to having an abortion.
Al Bartell, Steve Stancil and Mike Beatty debated Friday night on statewide TV.
Stancil, from Canton, and Beatty, from Jackson County, have both served in the Legislature. Bartell ran for the Public Service Commission in 2000.
They are seeking the nomination in their party's August 20 primary to challenge Democratic Lieutenant Governor Mark Taylor in November. Taylor is unopposed in his party's primary.
