WATKINS GLEN, NEW YORK - Less than a week after being placed on probation, Tony Stewart rolled to a NASCAR victory at Watkins Glen International.

Stewart, saying he's still ashamed after punching a photographer a week ago, had little competition today. He won by over one and a-half seconds, posting his 15th career victory.

He and Matt Kenseth have both won three times this year, most on the tour.

Ryan Newman, making his first start on a road course, finished second and wound up with his fifth straight top-five finish.

Jeff Gordon was third.

P-J Jones, in his first start for A-J Foyt, finished fourth in a Pontiac. Polesitter Ricky Rudd was fifth.

Bill Elliott, who had won the last two Winston Cup events, finished 21st.
