Ft. Stewart soldier killed during training

FORT STEWART - An Army soldier was killed during a training exercise late Monday when the armored personnel carrier he was in overturned in a ditch. <br>

Four other soldiers suffered minor injuries, Fort Stewart officials said Tuesday. All were members of the 1st Brigade Combat Team of the 3rd Infantry Division. <br>

The troops' identities were being withheld pending notification of family. U.S. Army Criminal Investigations and Fort Stewart Military Police are investigating the accident. <br>
<br>
It was the second training accident reported at Fort Stewart, near Savannah, as the 1st Brigade prepares for exercises at the National Training Center at Fort Irwin, Calif. <br>
<br>
On Sunday, an M1A1 Abrams tank valued at $2.4 million caught fire and was destroyed. No one was injured. Army officials said the cause of the fire is still being investigated.
