DECATUR - The primary race between outspoken Democratic Representative Cynthia McKinney and challenger Denise Majette has drawn the attention of Nation of Islam leader Louis Farrakhan, who is said to be planning a get-out-the-vote rally in DeKalb County Saturday.

The announcement came from a group called Muslims Active Politically, but gave no further details of where Farrakhan planned to appear or whether his visit was requested by either campaign.

A McKinney spokesman, Wendell Muhammad, referred a reporter to a Muslim minister he said was in direct contact with Farrakhan, but that person refused to speak for the record. McKinney's campaign manager, Bill Banks, did not return repeated telephone calls.

Majette, at a news conference on an unrelated topic, say Farrakhan is, ``welcome to come as anyone else is welcome to come,'' but she added, ``It will really be up to the voters who'll make the decision on Tuesday who they want to represent them in Congress.''

The race is viewed as McKinney's most serious challenge since her election to Congress in 1992.
