State Legislative districts different for voters

ATLANTA - Georgia voters chose nominees for the state Legislature Tuesday, many of them voting in districts that have changed dramatically since the last election. <br> <br> A redistricting plan approved last summer gives Democrats a distinct edge in holding on to a majority in both houses. At least 12 Republican incumbents were drawn into districts together to force them to run against each other. <br> <br> Another change is the addition of 23 multimember House districts. Voters in those larger areas will choose more than one candidate to represent them, for a total of 56 lawmakers. The remaining 124 House districts will have single member each. <br> <br> Members of the General Assembly must be re-elected every two years. There are a total of 236 members, 180 in the House and 56 in the Senate. <br> <br> Republicans have not controlled either house of the Legislature since Reconstruction.
