Billy McKinney vulnerable in runoff

ATLANTA - After spending 30 years in the Georgia House, State Representative Billy McKinney seemed unbeatable. But like his more famous daughter, he was more vulnerable than it appeared. <br> <br> McKinney, the father of U.S. Representative Cynthia McKinney, who lost her re-election bid on Tuesday, now faces a September tenth primary runoff election in his House District 44. <br> <br> The elder McKinney, a former Atlanta policeman known for his combative political style, got 48 percent of the vote in Tuesday&#39;s primary, compared to 46 percent for challenger John Noel. <br> <br> A third candidate, Patrick Stafford, got five percent, forcing a runoff. <br> <br> Friends and supporters of McKinney say his campaign was hindered by a redrawn district that included more white voters, his declining health, and the time he spent on his daughter&#39;s re-election bid against Denise Majette.
