West Nile in Gilmer County bird

UNDATED - Add a northeast Georgia county to the list of those in the state with confirmed cases of West Nile virus in birds. <br> <br> According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, Gilmer became the 13th county to confirm the virus in birds. Health officials say the virus is probably in all of Georgia&#39;s counties now. <br> <br> Officials Friday said the chance of humans getting the disease are slim. The elderly, very young and people with compromised immune systems are at the greatest risk. <br> <br> According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, 83 birds have tested positive for the disease this year in Georgia. Two men, one from Atlanta and one from Columbus, may have died from the disease.<br> <br> The 55 year old Atlanta man died Tuesday. Fulton County health officials say he was homeless and had underlying health conditions. <br> <br> Health officials with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said some simple measures can help people avoid infection, such as wearing insect repellant with DEET, wearing protective clothing and removing standing water where mosquitos breed.
