ATLANTA - Inmates at a Fulton County detention center got out of hand this weekend when deputies tried to turn off an Atlanta Falcons-Dallas Cowboys game before it was over.
The disturbance, which involved about 105 inmates, began around 11-11:30 p.m. Saturday at the Bellwood Detention Center, a medium-security site adjacent to the main jail.
"A couple of inmates were upset because TV sets were going off at a scheduled time ..." said Sgt. Clarence Huber of the Fulton County Sheriff's Department. "I was told that they did start some small fires in the early part of the evening, but other inmates used fire extinguishers to put the fires out."
More than 150 law enforcement officials were called in and the inmates willingly returned to their cells, Sheriff Jackie Barrett said. No one was taken hostage or hurt, officials said.
Most of the inmates were questioned and taken to the main jail. Authorities have identified two inmates believed to have led the disturbance.
The Falcons won Saturday's game, 21-19.
