Environmentally responsible subdivision near Athens

ATHENS - A group of local artists and musicians have purchased 155 acres in northern Athens-Clarke County, where they plan to create an environmentally responsible subdivision. <br> <br> Twenty-one buyers have signed up so far for the Orange Twin Conservation Community, which is now in the planning stages. <br> <br> Public records indicate up to 62 shares will be sold, but organizer Laura Carter, a member of the Athens band Elf Power, says the coalition hopes to sell just enough shares to get the project off the ground. <br> <br> The wooded site, once a Girl Scout camp, has natural springs, two creeks and wetlands, says Carter, who bought the property with several other people just hours after it hit the market two years ago. <br> <br> Plans call for at least 100 acres to be maintained as undeveloped green space, with the homes clustered on about 15 acres. <br> <br> Among those involved in the project already are musicians John D&#39;Azzo of the Gerbils, John Fernandez of Circulatory System, Heather McIntosh of Japancakes and the Instruments, as well as artists Art and Margo Rosenbaum.
