CLEVELAND, OHIO - The civil rights group co-founded in 1957 by Martin Luther King Junior will open its national convention Saturday in Cleveland, Ohio.
King's son, Martin Luther King the Third, who heads the Southern Christian Leadership Council, said Friday that the group has resolved its internal differences.
King says the five-day convention should have a more unified look this year.
Last June the SCLC board chairman criticized King and threatened to fire him over alleged deficiencies in fund-raising, leadership and time away from conference offices.
Convention speakers include King's widow Coretta Scott King, the Reverend Al Sharpton and King colleague and former U-N Ambassador Andrew Young.
