WILMINGTON, NORTH CAROLINA - Test results are expected Tuesday in the case of a pilot suspected of drinking alcohol before he was supposed to fly a plane from Wilmington, North Carolina, to Atlanta.
The unidentified pilot for a regional airline was stopped Sunday by a Wilmington security screener after she said she smelled alcohol on the pilot's breath.
The airline and federal aviation authorities are awaiting tests from a hospital to determine whether the pilot was intoxicated. Airline spokesman Kent Landers says the pilot has returned to Georgia and is on paid leave.
ASA Flight 4240 to Atlanta had 27 passengers that had not yet boarded the airplane when the pilot was detained. They were booked on other flights.
