SAINT WOLFGANG, AUSTRIA - Germany's Joseph Fendt retained his position as president of the International Luge Federation Sunday, getting re-elected to a third, four-year term during the organization's 50th annual congress.
Fendt -- a 1976 Olympic silver medalist in men's singles luge -- won out over Dwight Bell of Atlanta in a closed-door election. Fendt is only the second president since the federation was formed in 1957. Bert Isatitsch was the first.
Bell -- former president of U.S.A. Luge and the United States Olympic Committee's Chef de Mission during February's Olympic Winter Games -- was seeking to become the first American to hold the position of president of an international winter sports federation.
