ATLANTA - The $61 million restoration project on the state Capitol is now in its sixth year.
The renovation is designed to restore the 1889 building to its original appearance. Projects include replacing the plaster of the fourth-floor ceiling and transferring the building's electrical distribution system from the first floor to outside the building.
Crews finished removing more than 30 years of residue from the base of the Capitol several months ago.
Workers are using scaffolds raised in late May to clean the limestone rotunda - the section just below the gold dome that connects the north and south wings.
There is no time line for competition of the overall renovation.
But a spokeswoman for the Georgia Building Authority says everything seems to be on schedule.
