ATLANTA - Keith Eubanks, whose whispered, monotone voice could be heard on alternative radio stations across the East Coast, died of pneumonia Saturday at his home in Atlanta. He was 40 years old.

Eubanks was the former creative director for Atlanta's Power 99, later 99-X. He became an on-air personality for the station a decade ago when he could not afford the talent he wanted.

He developed a unique whisper delivery that was in keeping with the station's edgy, alternative-rock format. Radio stations around the country also used Eubanks' voice, and others copied his style.

Mark Renier, a 99-X executive, said ``He was the most sought-after voice guy in radio for about three or four years.''

In 1997, Eubanks became a full-time voice-over announcer. He did spots for Comedy Central, the Food Network, USA Network and the Cartoon Network. He also was the voice for Ford Motor Company, the NBA and the Coca-Cola Company.

The funeral was held Wednesday.
