MARIETTA - A day after the president of Life University resigned, the school's attorney says they hope to make an announcement by Monday, when the summer session begins, about the appointment of an interim president.
Attorney Frank Strickland told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday that details of Doctor Sid Williams' departure were being negotiated Wednesday as a meeting of trustees concluded for a second day on an expected change in leadership.
Doctor James Sigafoose said that the university's board of trustees urged Williams and his family, including his daughter and his wife, to leave their position.
Wednesday, the Atlanta newspaper reported that Williams was moving out of the executive suite he has occupied at the school and into the chancellor's office. Reached in Florida by The Associated Press, Williams confirmed the move but would not say if he had resigned.
The details of his departure, including whether Williams returns as chancellor, have yet to be determined.
On June 10, the Council on Chiropractic Education revoked the school's accreditation and cited four problem areas, including the number and stability of faculty in the university's public clinics and the school's planning and assessment efforts. University officials have said they will appeal before the July 10th deadline.
The university produces more chiropractic candidates than any other school in the country. The school currently has about 2,600 chiropractic students and 700 students in other degree programs.
