CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Kurt Busch, who was held in the pits for four laps as punishment for cursing NASCAR officials over the radio during the Pepsi 400, apologized Monday.
``In the opinion of the officials in the tower, he did not have control of his emotions,'' NASCAR spokesman Jim Hunter said, referring to Busch's actions during Saturday night's race at Daytona International Speedway.
Busch, 23, issued a statement Monday.
``To NASCAR, my sponsor, my team, and to all of the fans I extend my sincerest apologies for my anguish and temper that I expressed over the radio during the Pepsi 400,'' he said. ``... Racing in Winston Cup is a dream come true for me, and I can't thank NASCAR, Roush Racing, and Newell Rubbermaid enough for helping my realize that dream. I let my temper get the best of me the other night and the way I handled it was not in any way appropriate, and for that I'm truly sorry.''
Busch finished 31st, seven laps behind winner Michael Waltrip.
