DECATUR - The DeKalb County school system will enforce a stricter dress code when school opens in August, with districtwide uniforms phased in beginning in January.
New superintendent Johnny Brown unveiled a ``Dress for Success'' program at Monday night's school board meeting. The rules bar bare midriff's, netted or see-through clothes, halter or tank tops, baggy pants, short-shorts and skirts with high slits.
``There's a proper way to dress for school, and it does affect the way you learn,'' Brown said.
Elementary and middle schools in DeKalb will have uniforms in January, and they will be required for high school students next August.
The school district's two attorneys said the new policy doesn't need board approval because it's an administrative rule.
