Henry County takes zero tolerance policy on water ban

MCDONOUGH - Henry County is taking a zero tolerance policy on violations of water-use restrictions. <br> <br> Facing a 46 percent jump in consumption from June 2001 to last month, patrol officers were told Monday that no more verbal reprimands or warning slips will be issued when police spot someone breaking metro Atlanta&#39;s outdoor watering rules. <br> <br> Instead, violators will get a summons to court. <br> <br> Watering is permitted only between 10 p.m. and 10 a.m. on even-numbered days for even-numbered addresses and odd days for odd addresses. Assistant Police Chief Jim Simmons said the fine in Henry County can be up to $500 plus 30 days in jail. <br> <br> ``The public ought to know by now about the 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. ban,&#39;&#39; Simmons said. He said the Magistrate Court is clearing calendar dates just to handle water citations. <br> <br> Henry will pay additional overtime to have an unspecified number of officers concentrated in certain zones. The targeted zones will be unannounced and rotated throughout the county, Simmons said.
