ATHENS - The U.S. Navy has removed Captain David Ruff as commander of the Navy Supply Corps School in Athens, saying Navy officials have lost confidence in his ability to command.
The announcement by Vice Admiral Alfred Harms Junior comes a little more than a week before Ruff's scheduled retirement and the regular passing of command at the school.

Ruff, who was relieved Monday night, was set to retire July 19 at a formal ceremony. That ceremony has been canceled.
The Navy declined to be more specific about Ruff's removal, but said it was the result of an internal investigation prompted by a March 14 complaint against Ruff.
Navy spokeswoman Joy White said an investigative report is under review by the Judge Advocate General's Office at the Chief of Naval Education and Training headquarters in Pensacola, Florida. White said the specific allegations will not be made public until the investigation is complete.
Ruff, who was sworn in as commander of the Navy school on June 30, 2000, has been reassigned to Pensacola. He faces a formal reprimand, administrative discharge, court-martial or demotion in rank.
In a prepared statement, Ruff did not discuss his departure, but thanked Athens for its support during his two-year tenure at the school.
The Navy Supply Corps School is the training ground for the Navy's logistic personnel.
