RIVERDALE - A Clayton County man was sentenced to life Thursday for killing a Cambodian immigrant as he filled his car with gas, prosecutors said.

A Superior Court jury found Jason Sharp, 27, guilty of murder in the fatal shooting of 56-year-old Chonn Prak during a robbery attempt at a Riverdale Road gas station.

Judge Deborah Benefield also added five years to Sharp's prison sentence.

Prosecutors said Sharp ambushed Prak on May 1, 2001. Sharp emerged from woods near the gas pumps and tried to rob Prak, shooting him in the chest. The fuel hose from a gas pump was still attached to the car, police said.

Assistant District Attorney Erman Tanjuatco said the victim's family had fled Cambodia in 1982, endured refugee camps in Thailand and lived in the Atlanta area for about 10 years.
