Macon Boeing plant eliminating 100 jobs

MACON - Boeing Company will cut 100 jobs at its Macon assembly and maintenance plant next week, trimming more than 12 percent of the work force. <br> <br> The company expects the workers to be gone by mid-September. <br> <br> The Chicago-based aerospace giant employs about 800 people in Macon, mostly performing maintenance and other work on military aircraft. <br> <br> The cuts are caused by the recent loss of a contract to perform assembly repairs and modifications on the Air Force KC-135 tanker plane, Stewart said. <br> <br> A reduction in the number of C-17 cargo jet assemblies made at the plant also was a factor.
