LAWRENCEVILLE - The last of 10 defendants in a gang-related slaying of a college student outside a TGI Friday's restaurant have been convicted.

Vandara Ros, 22, and Albert Kim Tran, 20, both of Norcross, were convicted of murder Friday and sentenced to life in prison in the 2000 death of Hieu Tran, a student who wasn't related to Albert Tran.

Hieu Tran, 24, was studing computers at Georgia State University. Police said he was eating dinner with friends before he was gunned down in the parking lot on Jan. 9, 2000.

Officials said the college student was not in a gang, but his dinner companions were.

Ros and Albert Tran were tried together. Last week, another co-defendant scheduled to appear in the trail, Rick Yat, pleaded guilty to lesser charges. A total of 10 people have been convicted in connection with the shooting.

``I think this is a victory for the people of Gwinnett County who don't think gangs should be able to walk freely on our streets,'' said Tom Davis, an assistant district attorney who tried the case.
