Jim Fisher, corporate spokesman for Michigan-based Federal-Mogul said the move is the result of a "reduced demand for product."
Fisher said the 21-year-old plant will close October 31. Federal-Mogul bought the plant from Cummins, Incorporated, in 1981.
Fisher said the Flowery Branch production will be transferred to a Federal-Mogul plant in Wisconsin.
Layoffs are expected to begin in about 60 days and workers will be assisted by an outplacement agency in job interview skills, resume' construction, and other areas related to finding a new job.
