SAVANNAH - Those ``Moon River'' signs -- whenever they go up, they soon go away.

This time it took only a week for the green signs honoring Savannah native and songwriter Johnny Mercer's famed ``Moon River'' to disappear. Smaller signs had been stolen at least four times in recent years.
The Friends of Johnny Mercer wanted to keep his lyrics alive with the new signs on the river's bridge along the Diamond Causeway. The group spent about $300 -- most of its budget -- on the signs that featured Mercer's silhouette, a copy of his signature and the words ``Moon River.''
The two latest signs were gone even before the group knew that they had been put up by the state Department of Transportation.
One sign was found Wednesday -- stuck in the mud.
The group's president -- David Oppenheim -- is hoping someone will return the other sign. In his words, ``We'd just love to see the sign returned. No questions asked.''
