HAMPTON - The Harley-Davidson 100th Anniversary Open Road Tour opens at the Atlanta Motor Speedway Friday for a three-day run. It will include weekend entertainment by singers Tim McCraw and Travis Tritt.
Hampton police Chief Bud Smith says he expects crowds of at least 40,000 each day. But he says he does not expect traffic jams similar to the ones that occur at the two NASCAR races held at the speedway each year.
Harley-Davidson is presenting the inaugural leg of a 10-city worldwide birthday celebration in the south metro Atlanta area. The tour will travel to several countries before it ends next summer in Milwaukee.
Some 80 trucks were used to transport equipment for 20,000 square feet of exhibits, which will include a re-creation of the shed where the company was born.
