AUGUSTA - A Beech Island, S.C., man has been accused of stealing computer information from the Medical College of Georgia Hospital and Clinics.
Police suspect David Allen Jr., 32, of using unauthorized software to access information on a computer at MCG Health System in Augusta and emailing the files to his home.
Allen works for MCG Health, which operates the hospital and clinics and the children's medical center.
Last week, police discovered a ``keystroke capture program'' on Allen's work computer that records everything typed into a computer and saves it in a particular file. Officers then found certain files had been emailed to Allen's personal account.
Allen has not been arrested or charged with a crime. He has been suspended without pay since July 11, when the investigation began, said Deborah Humphrey, a spokeswoman for MCG Health.
``At no time was patient information compromised and there was no breach of patient confidentiality,'' Humphrey said.
Police have sent Allen's home computer to forensics specialists at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation's Thomson office.
