ATLANTA - Superior Court Judge Paschal English Junior - a finalist on the TV show ``Survivor'' - is facing criticism from some legal experts who say a judge should not do commercial endorsements.
English was known as ``Pappy'' on the CBS show's Marquesas Islands edition. The judge who works in Fayetteville south of Atlanta is appearing as a celebrity spokesman this spring in billboard, Internet, television and radio advertisements for Atlanta Gas Light Company.
The utility and South Carolina-based Ducane Gas Grills Incorporated are sponsoring a ``Summer Survival'' promotion touting the benefits of natural gas instead of propane.

The ads' tag line reads, ``Pappy doesn't do propane.''
Lyman Patterson is a professor of legal ethics at the University of Georgia Law School. He says Patterson's contract to be a commercial spokesman is not consistent with his position as a judge.
English declined to comment. But in an interview with the Daily Report in Atlanta, English said he does not care about the opinions of law professors ``in their ivory towers.''
