ATLANTA - Clifford Browning had heard stories about his coach's playing days, and a recent trip to the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame in Macon proved people weren't exaggerating.
There, as the centerpiece of an exhibit about Georgia Southern's rich football history, were photos of Tracy Ham, former Eagles and Canadian Football League star quarterback and the new coach at Division two Clark Atlanta.
Ham led Georgia Southern to Division II-A NCAA national titles in 1985 and 1986, then played 13 seasons in the CFL before retiring in 2000. As gifted a runner as he was a passer, he's fifth on the all-time CFL list with more than 40,000 passing yards and eighth in rushing with more than eight thousand yards.

Ham could play. Now he'll find out if he can coach at the college level, taking over at a school that was one-and-ten last season and has a history of losing.

Since his playing days, Ham has dabbled in high school coaching. He had been on Paul Johnson's staff at Georgia Southern in 1997 but left when the CFL came calling again.
