ATLANTA - If you recently bought beef at Kroger, you might have taken home some contaminated with E. coli, according to published reports.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Sunday that Kroger is warning people not to eat one-, three-, or five-pound packages of ground beef, chuck or round packaged in a plastic tube with a "sell by" date between May 9 and July 16. The packages are also marked "EST 969" inside the USDA inspection seal.

A Kroger spokeswoman said the company cannot determined which of its stores might have received the tainted meat.

The warning is part of a national recall of 19 million pounds of beef processed by ConAgra, which was announced Friday. At least 18 people have suffered E. coli illnesses after consuming contaminated beef processed by ConAgra.
