CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA - Carolina Panthers offensive lineman Chris Terry appeared in court Thursday on a charge of assaulting his wife and was freed on $2,500 bond.

Terry was arrested Wednesday night after his wife, 29-year-old NyQuell Jackson-Terry, told police he pushed her into a wall during an argument at their home in south Charlotte.

Jackson-Terry was granted a temporary restraining order against her husband by Mecklenburg District Judge Nate Proctor. In documents filed for that order, Jackson-Terry said her husband also has head-butted her, causing a lump on her forehead, and pushed her face into a pillow while their children watched.

Terry appeared in Mecklenburg District Court after spending the night in the county's central jail. His lawyer, Chris Fialko, declined to comment on the case.

The Panthers open training camp Friday in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

Terry, a second-round pick out of Georgia in 1999, has started all but one game in his three seasons with the team.
