ALBANY - The former president of an Albany personal care home was sentenced to six months in a detention center and four years of probation and agreed never to operate another home for her involvement in the death of an 82-year-old man.
Sixty-year-old Pearlie Johnson was charged with murder after James Burton died in 1999, a week after being removed from her facility.
Johnson pleaded guilty July 10 to cruelty to a person over the age of 65 as part of an agreement in which prosecutors dropped murder and involuntary manslaughter charges.
Chief Dougherty Superior Court Judge Loring Gray also ordered Johnson to pay a $3,500 fine.
Authorities determined that infection, malnutrition and dehydration may have contributed to Burton's death.
