PEACHTREE CITY - A 41-year-old man is dead after a woman crashed into his minivan as she tried to elude police.

Georgia State Patrol Spokesman Gordy Wright says 37-year-old Loraine McCrary of Jonesboro had her three children in the car with her Saturday night when she crashed head-on into the driver's side of the Chrysler minivan on Georgia 54 in Fayette County.

Wright said the minivan's driver, 41-year-old Norman Charles Vicha Junior of Peachtree City, was killed instantly.

McCrary, who was driving a Ford Explorer, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Her seven-year-old daughter remains hospitalized.

The other two children -- a six-year-old and a one-year-old -- have been discharged from the hospital.

Police say the chase began in Meriwether County after an officer tried to stop McCrary. Authorities say she sped away, leading police into Fayette County.

No charges have been filed. Wright says investigators found evidence of alcohol in the McCrary's vehicle, but police are still awaiting the results of blood alcohol tests.
