University has record in donations

ATHENS - A record $62.7 million in donations and pledges from private sources was received by the University of Georgia in the last fiscal year, officials said Monday. <br>

The high was $58.9 million in 1997. <br>
<br>
The previous fiscal year, ending June 30, 2001, the total was $54.5 million. <br>
<br>
Last year's total, a 15 percent increase, included a $3.5 million grant from The Goizueta Foundation to create programs to help better educate Hispanic children, and a $3.3 million undesignated gift from the trust of Winship Nunnally. <br>
<br>
Other large individual gifts include a $1.7 million bequest to the College of Veterinary Medicine, a $1.5 million gift to the College of Education and a $1 million pledge to the School of Law. <br>
<br>
Gifts to the Franklin College of Arts and Sciences reached $7.4 million, including $800,000 to endow a professorship in plant biology.
