Man convicted of 1975 slaying of detective

ATLANTA - A Superior Court jury convicted a 61-year-old man Monday of killing Atlanta police detective Sam Guy during a 1975 motel robbery. <br> <br> Superior Court Judge Doris Downs immediately sentenced Terry Jackson to life in prison. <br> <br> Guy, 40, was working off duty as a security guard when he was shot Jan. 7, 1975. The case was unsolved for 24 years until police got a tip from the ex-wife of an accomplice in the robbery, Abner Wilkinson. <br> <br> Wilkinson showed up at the homicide squad in September 1999 with his lawyer and a small overnight bag and confessed, saying he and Jackson had been heroin junkies in need of cash for a fix. <br> <br> Wilkinson agreed to testify against Jackson in exchange for a prison sentence of no more than 12 years.
