Memo to liberal Democrats: Enough is Enough

Posted 2:22PM on Tuesday 30th July 2002 ( 23 years ago )
There comes a time it seems to me ... when we-the-people need to stand up and say to our liberal politicians and the media that spreads their every word as Gospel, enough is enough. am referring, of course, to the bellicose attack on President Bush for not stopping the 9-11 tragedy. If you'll look at the people making the charges, even the most non-political observer will know this is an attempt to damage the popularity of our President in an election year. The harshest accusations are coming from the most liberal of the Democrats: Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy and of course the Darling of Georgia Democrats, Cynthia McKinney. And the media is quoting these people as if their statements were on an equal plane with the president of the United States. The most irresponsible statement, of course. came from Georgia's McKinney when she implied President Bush knew the 9-11 attack was coming and let it happen so the oil and defense industries could make a profit.

The fact is all of us knew there were terrorist groups in the Middle East, and we knew they were targeting the United States. They have blown up American troops. They have bombed U. S. embassies. They tried to sink our destroyer, the U. S. S. Cole. They had even tried to blow up the World Trade Center before, right here on American soil. We knew the threat was out there ... all of us. What we did not know, and did not expect, was when and where it would hit and the ferocity of the 9-11 attack. For Washington's high-profile liberals to imply otherwise is both ridiculous and irresponsible.

Now, having said that, I will defend the right of everyone to criticize the actions of the President, or anyone else in government. But when the criticism is not totally factual, and is obviously based on destroying the President of the United States, politically or otherwise, then it is time for the American people to stand up and say: enough is enough.

This is Gordon Sawyer, and may the wind always be at your back.
