DECATUR - A man being held in the Columbia County jail on unrelated charges has been accused of killing a Lithonia woman whose skeleton was discovered this week - 18 months after she disappeared.

An autopsy found the cause of death of 72-year-old Cora Inez McVey to be blunt force trauma and stab wounds, DeKalb County police spokeswoman Lt. Pam Kunz said Friday. McVey was last seen at a grocery near her home Nov. 2, 2000.

Detectives issued a murder warrant for David E. Howard, 23, a DeKalb resident being held on unrelated charges in Columbia County. Kunz said detectives have identified belongings of the woman linked to Howard but would not disclose details.

Police also believe Michael Peacock, 27, was involved. He was fatally shot by a police officer in a home invasion a week ago. Kunz would not say how police had tied Peacock to McVey's slaying.
