Property that generates taxes for schools, law enforcement, fire protection, parks and recreation will suddenly be removed from the tax rolls. Taxpayers will see millage rates skyrocket as their governments attempt to maintain the quality of life status the taxpayers once had. The years of construction dust, diesel fumes and broken windshields that lie ahead will diminish property values and further reduce the tax digest.
No one could ever accuse me of being a tree hugger, but I have to raise the environmental issue. How can a governor who is pushing for 20% greenspace simultaneously demand that we throw away 59 miles X 1000' of North Georgia countryside to build a highway that contributes nothing to our environment? The Arc will simply be another out-of-control interstate highway with its daily addition of fumes, death and destruction. Don't let it happen.
