ATLANTA - Hall of Famer Don Sutton, a broadcaster for the Atlanta Braves, underwent surgery Thursday to remove his left kidney.
A growth was discovered during routine tests last month. Doctors decided to remove the kidney and conduct a biopsy to determine if it's malignant.
Results of the biopsy won't be known until next week. Sutton was listed in fair condition at Piedmont Hospital, spokeswoman Nina Montanaro said.
Sutton will likely be out of the broadcast booth for three-to-six weeks.
``It's just something in there I don't like,'' Sutton, 57, said before the surgery. ``We've got to get it out.''
Sutton, who pitched in four World Series, was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1998. During his 23-year major league career, he played for the Dodgers, Astros, Athletics, Brewers and Angels, compiling a 324-256 record.
Former Atlanta second baseman Mark Lemke is filling in for Sutton on the Braves broadcast crew.
