Arthur has been a law professor at Emory for 20 years. During that time, he also has held various other positions at the university, including associate dean for academic affairs and co-director of the school's American Law Center in Moscow.
The new dean brings ``a keen intellect, a judicious manner and a tenacious ambition'' to his post, Emory President William M. Chace said.
``I am convinced he will bring the school to even greater prominence and well-being,'' Chace said.
