GRIFFIN - A 63-year-old woman accused of fatally shooting her adult sons in a Spalding County nursing home will be able to attend their funeral.
Lawyers for Carol Carr said Wednesday that a judge has allowed her release to attend services planned tomorrow in Jonesboro.
Carr, charged with two counts of murder, is under suicide watch at the Spalding County Jail. Police said she shot her sons -- 42-year-old Michael Randy Scott and 41-year-old Andy Byron Scott, 41 -- as they lay in bed Saturday night at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation in Griffin. She then walked to the lobby and waited for police.
Family members said Carr was trying to end their suffering brought on by Huntington's disease, which slowly cripples the brain and the body.
The men's father, Hoyt Scott, also suffered from the hereditary, degenerative nerve disorder. He died in 1995 after spending 12 years in a nursing home.
