CANTON - Two teenagers were killed and four others injured after the driver lost control of a sport utility vehicle on Interstate 575, Canton police said.
The wreck, which temporarily closed 575, happened around 8:40 p.m. Wednesday just south of Ga. Highway 20. A total of six people were in the Toyota 4-Runner.
Patrol officers said the driver lost control of the vehicle, swerved into the center median, then overcorrected, crossing back into 575. The SUV crashed into three trees.
Authorities said the victims - a 17-year-old girl, and an 18-year-old boy - died on the scene. The teenagers' identity was being withheld pending notification of the victims' family, police said Thursday.
``It's still under investigation,'' Canton police Officer G.R. Grace said. ``There's possibly a second vehicle, a red sports car, that was involved that we're trying to follow up leads now.''
Two passengers were taken to North Fulton Hospital while two others were flown to Grady Memorial Hospital. The two at Grady were in critical and stable condition, WSB-TV reported.
A mother of one of the teens told WSB-TV that her son said all four passengers were not wearing seat belts.
