Columbia man run over by train

GROVETOWN - Columbia County officials are investigating the death of a Grovetown man who was run over by a train. <br>

Ernest Lee Smith Jr., 23, was found on the tracks early Saturday, Columbia County Sheriff's Maj. Rick Whitaker said. The train's engineers told police thy saw Smith, but were unable to stop the train. <br>
<br>
Investigators are awaiting results of a blood-alcohol test on Smith, whose body was sent to the state crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
