OMAHA - Clemson pitcher Matt Henrie is making the most of his trip to the College World Series, even though he's not quite sure what his role is supposed to be.

After starting 17 games during the season, the junior right-hander is becoming one of Clemson's top threats out of the bullpen in the CWS. He's already picked up a win and a save in Clemson's 2-0 start.

Starter or reliever, Henrie said either role is fine with him as long as the Tigers win.

``I'm comfortable whatever I do,'' he said Monday. ``Whatever coach feels is best for the team.''

Whatever the formula, it seems to be working as the Tigers are within one win of the championship game.

Henrie was originally scheduled to start Clemson's second game of the series on Sunday. That plan changed when he had to come in to pitch relief in Clemson's 11-10 win over Nebraska in the opening round game, getting the win.

``Friday night was kind of a shock for me because I didn't think I was going to pitch at all,'' Henrie said. ``I helped the team out and that was good.''

He came in late again on Sunday and got a save in Clemson's 9-7 win over Georgia Tech.

``You couldn't ask for anything more. Especially, we're 2-0 and that's even bigger getting a win and a save,'' he said.

The 6-foot-3 junior from Jupiter, Fla., split time between starting and relief duties in 2001.

He led Clemson pitchers with a 3.04 ERA during the regular season. The victory over Nebraska tied him for the team lead with 13 wins, while the save on Sunday was his first of the year and third in his career.

The 2-0 start has earned the Tigers two off. Coach Jack Leggett had not determined his pitching plans for Wednesday's game against either South Carolina and Georgia Tech. Those two teams play an elimination game Tuesday.

``We've just got to figure out who's going to be 100 percent,'' Leggett said.

Henrie figures in the mix of about five possible starters, he said.

``His role totally has changed in this World Series compared to what it was during the season,'' Leggett said. ``He's done what we needed to have done.''

Henrie plans to be ready for anything, even though starting and relief often take a different approach.

``The main thing is, being a reliever, you've just got to be aggressive and go after them from the get go,'' Henrie said. ``Being a starter you can afford to make that mistake early in the game.''

``If you come in in relief, you can't make any mistakes,'' he said.

A seventh-round pick by the Arizona Diamondbacks earlier this month, Henrie said he hasn't started thinking about whether he'll leave college after the season or stay with the Tigers for another year.
