Woman accused in deputy shooting changes plea to guilty

APPLING - A woman who pleaded innocent to forgery, identification theft and shooting a sheriff&#39;s deputy less than a month ago has changed her plea on one of the charges. <br> <br> Tamika Chanlorda Bumpass pleaded guilty Monday in the shooting of Columbia County Sheriff&#39;s Deputy Glenda Shelton. Sentencing on the charges could come as early as next week. <br> <br> Bumpass was arrested in Appling on April 16 on several charges, including nine counts of forgery and 17 counts of identity fraud. <br> <br> According to investigators, Bumpass attacked Shelton while being transported on April 19. <br> <br> Shelton&#39;s gun went off, hitting the deputy in the chest. Police say Bumpass then turned the gun on a passer-by, stole his pickup and escaped. She was captured 12 hours later. <br> <br> Shelton has recovered from her injuries and has returned to work.
