JONESBORO - The burned body of a woman believed to be between 20-35 years old was found in a wooded area by two passers-by, police said Monday.

The body had been burning for about an hour when two women saw it around 8 a.m. Sunday, Clayton County police spokesman Maj. Doug Jewett said. The women, who were out for a walk, discovered the remains in a wooded lot at the end of Garden Springs Drive, an area near College Park between Ga. 85 and Riverdale Road.

Police said the body was that of a black woman, weighing 120 to 130 pounds and with fingernails 1 to 1.5 inches long. The body was burned almost beyond recognition, Jewett said.

Authorities said the body was in an undeveloped section that is frequently used for illegal dumping of trash.
