CANTON - Cherokee County authorities are trying to determine what caused a two-vehicle accident that killed a five-year-old boy and left his mother and six-year-old brother hospitalized.
Authorities identified the five-year-old as Steven White.
The accident happened about 7 p.m. Tuesday east of Canton on Georgia 20. The mother, 41-year-old trina White of Canton, remains at Grady Memorial Hospital; the older boy has been released from a children's hospital.
Authorities say the van and the car were traveling in opposite directions when the van clipped the car.
Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison says the van went down a steep embankment and was lodged at a 65-degree or 70-degree angle.
The younger boy was sitting in a passenger seat behind the mother and died at the scene. Rescuers pulled the six-year-old and the mother from the van.
